Lives on Block Island

Career

Cariona came to Block Island when she was 16 years old and began working at the Bellevue House as a chambermaid. By 17 she was the assistant manager, and at 18 was promoted to manager. Two years later she started the Block Island Accommodation Service, which handles the reservations for five island properties, while also managing the hiring of personnel and daily maintenance. She had a desire to expand the inn and offer packages to guests, and then created Old Harbor Fishing Charters. Her creativity was further demonstrated when she developed a website to promote the business and schedule of charter fishing trips. She coordinates packages with bike rentals, moped rentals and kayak rentals and creates a powerful web presence and marketing strategy for these various entities that are independently successful while cross promoting.

Community
Cariona serves on the Taste of Block Island Committee. She volunteers for the Block Island Chamber of Commerce and assists the office by greeting tourists and answering questions. She is a member of the Block Island Lions Club, supporting the annual clambake, the St. Patrick’s Day Brunch, polar swim, and the fishing tournament. She is an Easter Bunny helper. She organizes a walk and a cookout to benefit the National Epilepsy Foundation.
