If your closet is still stuck in 2023, consider this your official style wake-up call. Just in time for the warmer months ahead, East Greenwich-based luxury clothier Roaring Fashions has released its annual guide to men’s wardrobe essentials for Spring and Summer 2026 – offering a mix of timeless staples and modern upgrades designed to keep Rhode Island’s gentlemen looking sharp.
At the center of it all is owner Cheryl Petteruti, the only female men’s clothier in Rhode Island, who believes great style starts with the right foundation.
“Timeless never goes out of style, so having a base of essential clothing pieces that every gentleman should own is key,” says Petteruti. “Quality T-shirts, tailored dark-wash denim, and classic leather sneakers form three timeless foundation pieces. Trending pieces can then be layered onto the base, rounding out the wardrobe for a complementary, modern, updated style.”
So what’s trending for 2026?
First up: layers. Vests remain a dominant style statement, adding polish whether worn under a coat or as lightweight outerwear. Linen, cotton, quilted fabrics, and subtle patterns are all in the mix.
Footwear is getting a thoughtful refresh as well. Loafers and minimalist leather sneakers are trending, though Petteruti emphasizes that context matters. “Personally, I dislike the white trainer with a suit, regardless of how young or good looking the guy may be,” she notes.
Sportcoats are also evolving. Still tailored but slightly more relaxed than in recent years, they’re increasingly styled casually with denim or dressed up with wool trousers and turtlenecks. For summer comfort, unstructured linen blends are gaining popularity.
Color-wise, earth tones like olive, rust, and deep navy dominate the palette, with pastels making their seasonal appearance. Meanwhile, subtle textures such as birdseye and hopsack—and understated patterns like windowpane and muted plaid—add depth without overwhelming the look.
As for trousers? Skinny fits are officially on their way out. “We are seeing the single reverse pleat in a lot of trousers, including denim,” Petteruti explains. “Europeans are wearing a lot of boxier, double-breasted coats with high-waisted, wider leg, pleated pants, so this trend is making its way to America.”
Since opening in 2020, Roaring Fashions has focused on making wardrobe upgrades approachable for men who may not love shopping.
“Shopping is not a fun task for most men, so I try to make it enjoyable,” says Petteruti. “We focus on fit because it doesn’t matter how expensive clothing is – if it doesn’t fit, it just won’t look good. When you feel good about the way you look, it’s contagious.”
