A knitting supply store and studio.
On Route 1 in East Greenwich, tucked into the plaza where Benny’s used to be. Find Skein Yarn Shop between Teddy Bearskins and Siena.
This #LYS (local yarn shop) has everything: a long table for knitting and kibitzing, a range of yarns in various weights, myriad supplies, books and kits, plus drop-in classes, and more. Owner Lori Land, who has been knitting since her grandmother taught her at age 12, dreamed of this space for 20 years before opening the business named for an oblong ball of yarn. Land says she wanted to “provide a welcoming space where knitters and crocheters of all levels can come together and bond over their love of all things fibery.” In addition to a bustling storefront, the community Land is building extends to the Skein Scoop Podcast on YouTube, which she hosts with friend Justine MacKechnie; Skein has even hosted fellow podcasters Kevin and Ray from Needles at the Ready at an in-store event. “Come and sit and knit or crochet whenever we are open,” says Land, an open invitation sure to leave you feeling as cozy as a pair of hand-knit socks.
