A classic sandwich shop boasting fresh breads and house-made sauces.
Located in the shingled commercial building on Boston Neck Road, near Wampum Road, look for the jaunty blue “open” flag.
There’s nothing better than a good sandwich with layers of fixings piled on good bread and smothered with sauce. Philip Dimin, chef, owner, and creative mind behind The Salty General makes it his mission to offer only the tastiest of sandwiches, “using high-quality ingredients, thoughtful sauces, and some of the best bread in Rhode Island.” Dimin is a true foodie: “I live for food. I think about it most of the day,” he says. But it’s not just his passion that makes a stellar sandwich, Dimin also appreciates flavor profiles from sampling food from across the world, and a few of his sandwiches are inspired by time spent cooking in Italy with his wife’s family in Calabria. Although Dimin’s sandwiches will appeal to both traditional and adventurous eaters – from a classic tuna salad to the mortadella frito (which is packed with salt and vinegar chips!) – he goes the extra mile for his customers by making his own sauces and pickling vegetables himself. Those who are hungry and visit the Salty G are guaranteed to be served “a damn good sandwich.”
