What it is:
A seaside scoop and candy shop that’s been serving up memories in South County for 40 years.
Where to find it:
Directly across from Narragansett Town Beach in Pier Market Place, it’s the perfect summertime stop.
What makes it a Rhody Gem?
Owner Dianne Mann worked in corporate finance and dreamed of living at the beach when she retired. Well, dreams do come true, and her Narragansett ice cream and candy shop now teems with beach-going families and teens from morning til evening. “Everyone who walks through our door is smiling and happy, and the kids are screaming with excitement,” Mann, or “Nana” to her three grandchildren, says. “The smell of our delicious waffle cones hits you as you walk in the door barefoot and sandy right off the beach. Our customers wait in the long lines for a selection of 57 flavors of premium ice cream, Italian gelato, soft serve cones, and Del’s lemonade.” Even vegan customers have seven flavors to choose from, all made with coconut milk. “Nana’s Candy Bar is right next door,” says Mann, whose daughter Crissi helps run the happy madness. “It has walls and walls of nostalgic candy, saltwater taffy and fudge,” Mann says. Grab a beach pail and fill it to the brim!
