What happens when one of Rhode Island’s most beloved markets meets a brand-new local celebration? You get a can’t-miss spring moment. On May 13, the first-ever Hey Rhody Market takes over Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston for a free, all-ages event from 4-8pm, bringing together shopping, food and drinks, live music, kids activities, and a fashion show presented by Beau Bleu Boutique & Gifts, alongside a Mini Flea pop-up that taps into the energy locals already know and love.

For years, the Providence Flea has built a loyal following, becoming a weekly ritual for many Rhode Islanders. “There’s the discovery aspect because you never know exactly what you’ll find,” says founder Maria Tocco. “It’s a different market every week with new and returning vendors… so to avoid F.O.M.O., you have to come back.” That sense of surprise, paired with a social, come-as-you-are atmosphere, is exactly what makes the Flea feel less like an errand and more like a plan.

At its core, the Flea is about connection. “People meet up with friends and family, bring their dogs, grab a coffee, and spend their Sundays together,” Tocco says. “Rhode Islanders love their locals, and they return to meet and connect with the makers and artists and collectors.”

That same spirit carries into the Mini Flea popping up at the Hey Rhody Market. Tocco describes it as “a smaller-but-mighty snapshot of the Flea experience,” featuring a curated mix of standout vendors offering everything from handmade watches and vintage rugs to eco-printed textiles, locally designed jewelry, and small-batch goods. It’s an easy entry point for first-timers and a fresh way for regulars to discover something new.

The Flea’s vendor philosophy is part of what keeps shoppers coming back. “Indie is the key,” Tocco explains. “All of our vendors are independent businesses. We don’t allow anything mass produced or wholesaled for retail… we look for originality, authenticity and quality.” The result is a lineup that feels both curated and constantly evolving.

The collaboration also creates new opportunities for local businesses. “Markets like this are impactful because they introduce local businesses to new audiences,” Tocco says. “The Mini Flea at the Hey Rhody Market connects our vendors with the Hey Rhody community and continues our shared mission of supporting local creativity and entrepreneurship.”

Beyond the Flea, the Hey Rhody Market rounds out the experience with a full evening lineup, from live music and food vendors to family-friendly activities, all set inside one of Rhode Island’s most iconic venues celebrating its 110-year anniversary.

Tocco’s advice for making the most of it is simple. “Arrive early and leave time to linger.” For more information on the Providence Flea, visit ProvidenceFlea.com.. To learn more about the Hey Rhody Market, head to HeyRhodyMediaCo.com.
