Love may be in the air year round on Block Island, but now there’s data to back it up.
A recent national ranking has named the island the most romantic town in America, outshining iconic destinations with its signature blend of intimacy and ease. The study, conducted by researchers with interactive free tarot card reading website Tarotoo, analyzed 125 destinations across the country to uncover where romance shows up not just in dreamy travel photos, but in real guest experiences.
Using a weighted formula that factored in romantic accommodations, couple-friendly activities, guest satisfaction, and proximity to airports, the study set out to identify destinations that deliver meaningful experiences for couples.
Block Island emerged as the clear standout. “Ranked first overall, Block Island emerged as the strongest Valentine’s Day destination for couples in 2026 by excelling across nearly every metric,” the study notes. “It placed third nationwide for romantic accommodations per capita, recorded the highest average guest satisfaction score in the entire study, and ranked second for airport proximity, making it both intimate and exceptionally easy to reach.”
The findings reinforce the idea that smaller destinations can rival major cities when atmosphere and accessibility align. “The island’s performance shows how smaller destinations can outperform major cities when quality, convenience, and atmosphere align,” the report explains.
Block Island finished with a score of 61.52, placing more than four points ahead of second place finisher New York City, which ranked highly for its abundance of couple-friendly experiences. Maui secured third place thanks to its scenic appeal and strong guest ratings.
For anyone who has strolled the Mohegan Bluffs or watched the sunset from a harbor-facing porch, the recognition feels well deserved.
