Who says Oktoberfests are just for the grownups? Unlike the boozier celebrations of German culture, the Wakefield Oktoberfest at the Wakefield Village Association encourages parents to bring their kids, as there will be plenty for the little ones to do and see. The crazy, colorful characters of Big Nazo Lab will perform, as well as several Disney Princesses, the Paw Patrol gang, Pat the Patriot, illusions by The Great Baldini, and much more. But don’t worry, adults can still have their fun: More than 100 local artisans and vendors will line Main Street to show off their wares, and RiverFire will illuminate the Saugatucket River after dark. The “Battle of the Beers” will feature a showdown between Whalers Brewing Company and Shaidzon Beer Co., and buskers and dancers will perform throughout, including the balloon-twisted Amy the Mime.
The street events are free, but $5 will land you admission to a biergarten showcasing authentic German eats and drinks, including bratwurst, apple cider, and strudel. It will also feature live entertainment in the form of bands, dancing, and music from the Rhode Island German-American Cultural Society. Events take place October 6, Main Street, Wakefield
