The Weekend Rundown: October 27-29

October 27: Don your black-and-white finery for Mysterium: The Eternal Masquerade at the Providence Public Library. This immersive Halloween gala features an interactive performance by the living statues of Ten31 Productions, plus dining and dancing all night.

October 27: Things get spooky at Halloween CarnEvil at Newport Vineyards in Middletown. The adults-only costume party will have circus performers, fortune-telling machines, appearances by Amy Bruni and Adam Berry of TLC’s Kindred Spirits and lots of other (21+) spirits.

October 28: Don’t miss out on the spooky, 8-bit action at Providence’s newest arcade bar. Get to Freeplay Arcade for their first annual Halloween party – complete with an ‘80s-themed movie and video game costume contest – featuring Halloween-themed music, classic horror flicks and, of course, a ton of classic arcade and pinball games.

October 28: Find the Great Pumpkin at the Perfect Pumpkin Party at the Audubon Environmental Education Center in Bristol. The festive family costume party includes a scavenger hunt around the wildlife refuge, pumpkin games, a fall photo booth and pumpkin painting.

October 28: Smith’s Castle in North Kingstown is an important part of Rhode Island’s history, and it’s also rumored to be haunted. Find out the truth for yourself at their Paranormal Investigation Series, hosted by RISEUP Paranormal, who will bring groups through the house to investigate supernatural claims.

October 28–29: Festival Ballet celebrates Halloween in a totally unique way, with The Widow’s Broom. The ballet, based on the book by Providence’s own Chris Van Allsburg, features a haunting original score and a set designed by Tony Award–winner Eugene Lee.

October 29: Ponder the nature of evil at Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein at Four Corners Arts Center in Tiverton. The chilling three-actor play by Hampstead Stage Company centers on Dr. Frankenstein retelling his creation of the monster.

October 29: Dig into some delicious food at the 34th annual Taste of Newport in support of Child & Family, a Newport-based non-profit serving children and at-risk families in Rhode Island. More than 20 local restaurants will be on hand for an evening of food, cocktails and silent auctions, all for a great cause.
