Now Tallulah’s taco fans don’t have to trek all the way to Providence for a fix, as the popular taqueria has opened their second location on Narragansett Avenue in Jamestown. “Our ultimate goal is the same as it has always been,” explains co-owner Kelly Ann Rojas, “to serve flavorful food made with quality ingredients to our guests from our kind-hearted, motivated team and make a positive impact in our community.” This includes staples like Carnitas Tacos, Camaron Burritos, and Papas al Chipotle Nachos, plus house margaritas, veggie options, and refreshing Jarritas sodas.
With a commissary kitchen coming later this year in the Farm Fresh RI hub in Providence, chef and co-owner Jake Rojas says, “These new spaces significantly expand our kitchen space, so I’ll have more room to experiment and add other offerings... Expect even more creativity from our kitchen and operations! One taco at a time.” These new creations will find their way to the Jamestown eatery, too, which will also expand to outdoor patio dining on a first-come-first-served basis this month, with new days and hours added for summer.
Lush fields of grapevines, sweeping views of bucolic South Kingstown, and a pristinely restored manor: These are the sights you’ll take in over a glass of wine at Shepherd’s Run vineyard and venue come August once everything is just right. Says general manager Susan Denice, “Our winemaker Mike Harney has been making wine in New England for over 15 years, so he understands the soil, the New England weather patterns – or lack thereof. As a team, Ryan Schoen, myself, and Harney want to grow varietals that grow well in this climate… The terroir of each vineyard we find is unique and we aim to express that through our winemaking process.”
As the vines are just beginning to grow, it will be four to five years before estate wines are on the shelf, but in the meantime their first season will include selections from places like the Finger Lakes, Sonoma Coast, and Wahluke Slope in Washington. Grapes sourced both regionally and globally will go into a diverse portfolio, and food truck nights, a pig roast, and meal pairings will round out the experience.
On the one hand breakfast, on the other dessert, Lulu’s Little Pancakes dares to take a beloved diner staple a step (or three) further by sparing no indulgence. From riffs on actual sweets like Strawberry Shortcake or Banana Cream Pie to fruity Mango Tango with mango puree, fresh blueberries, and white chocolate chips, owner Adrianna Webster seeks to devise variations for everyone’s taste to create “a whole new pancake eating experience”. She explains, “There’s the convenience of them being bite-sized and the creative, gourmet topping selection… We aim to be more of a dessert option than breakfast, although I admittedly wouldn’t mind eating these delicious mini pancakes in the morning!”
Though based in a recently opened brick-and-mortar in Cranston, Lulu’s main beat is the food truck circuit, with plans to post up on Bridal Avenue in West Warwick along with events across South County and the state. Watch for the purple truck and get ready to trade maple syrup for the likes of cookie butter, Crunch Berry cereal, and fresh fruit.
