Elevate Your Cocktail Game with Hands-On Sessions with Dale DeGroff at The Cafe

The iconic mixologist brings his expertise to Westerly for five Tuesdays of craft cocktail magic

Posted

This fall, renowned master mixologist and Pawcatuck resident Dale DeGroff will take center stage at The Cafe in Westerly, offering a unique opportunity for cocktail enthusiasts to learn from the best in the business. With five exclusive Tuesday sessions scheduled from August to December, participants can immerse themselves in the world of craft cocktails. DeGroff has become a legendary figure in the world of mixology, as he revived the art of bartending during his time at New York City's iconic Rainbow Room in the 1980s. DeGroff pioneered a gourmet approach to recreating classic drinks, sparking a cocktail revolution that transformed the industry. His influence has earned him accolades and awards, including the 2009 Tales of the Cocktail Foundation Spirited Award for his book The Essential Cocktail and the 2002 IACP Julia Child Award for his seminal work, The Craft of the Cocktail.

The sessions at The Cafe are designed to be interactive and offer participants valuable tips and insights from DeGroff himself. Attendees will not only witness DeGroff’s expertise firsthand but also have the chance to participate in a hands-on cocktail crafting experience. Each session will begin with a welcome aperitif and include samples of three expertly crafted cocktails. The events will run from 5:30-7pm and feature DeGroff alongside The Cafe’s skilled bartenders as they demonstrate how to create a variety of classics.

For the August session, DeGroff shares, “Make a margarita the right way: fresh and lively, or a whiskey sour with a 19th-century twist of floated claret wine. Taste the simple classic daiquiri, far removed from the slushy, neon-flavored impostors of today, and experience the 17th-18th century drink that first married strong spirits with citrus juice.” Participants in any session will receive the newly released 20th anniversary edition, The New Craft Cocktail: Everything You Need to Know to Think Like a Master Mixologist.  Learn more and reserve a spot for The Cocktail Hour at The Cafe by visiting TheCafeRI.com or OpenTable.

The Cocktail Hour at The Cafe series includes the following sessions:

  • August 13: Daiquiris and Sours
  • September 24: Martinis
  • October 8: Old Fashioneds and Manhattans
  • November 12: Negronis and Bitter Cocktails
  • December 10: Warm Holiday Cocktails, including Espresso Martinis
