Drive along Route 108 and pass all kinds of shopping centers, including the Quo Vadis, and be on the lookout for a sign that reads Nico Scout. Not sure what it is? It’s a cool shop owned by Amber Gadde, and she’s filled it with a range of products all with an emphasis on design. Named for the Velvet Underground singer and the To Kill a Mockingbird character, Gadde has created a hip yet welcoming boutique. Alternative music plays as you browse gifts and jewelry by independent makers, artisanal home accessories, books and paper goods, and notice brands you might not expect to find in a South Kingstown plaza. It’s obvious that the shop is dear to Gadde’s heart and she’s delighted to explain the origins of every selected item and then recommend the best place to grab a smoothie. There’s even a table called The Find with selected vintage and secondhand items like jeans and sweaters. Follow along on Instagram at @shopnicoscout for pop-up shops and updates on events like the Muffy Brandt Indigo Workshop on Sunday, March 8.
