Wingate book club to discuss ‘News of the World’ by Paulette Jiles

The book club at Wingate Residences on the East Side will meet to discuss “News of the World” by Paulette Jiles on Monday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. In her engaging novel, Jiles navigates the moral complexities of honor, trust and responsibility in the immediate aftermath of the American Civil War. The book follows Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd as he travels town to town to give live readings of newspapers, later finding himself on a 400-mile journey south to lead a young orphan back to her family.

The Wingate book club launched more than a decade ago and remains one of the community’s most popular programs. Since its inception, the club has read more than 125 books. The book club typically meets the fourth Monday of each month, excluding holidays, and is free and open to the public. Space is limited. For more information or to RSVP, call (401) 275-0682.
