The Westerly Bandstand has stood proudly in Wilcox Park for 115 years. Originally built for the Westerly Town Band in 1902, it now has a new roof and a new paint job, among a few other updates from Erickson Builders of Hope Valley. The restoration project was made possible by a $15,488 State Preservation Grant, ensuring that the band will continue to play for years to come.
And play they will. On June 11, the Westerly Town Band dedicated the newly renovated bandstand with a children’s concert in the afternoon. Families danced and sang along while the band played a popular selection of tunes ranging from Saturday morning cartoon jingles to marching band standards. Here’s to another 115 years of music and memories in the park.
