Weekend Best Bets

June 8-10

This weekend is packed with exciting events and things to do, and they’re just in time for the rainy weather to clear out.

If you like shopping and raising money for a good cause, stop by the University of Rhode Island for the huge yard sale. This sale will feature a lot of different items donated by URI students, professors and the local Kingston community; there will also be a section called Dollars for Dorian. The money made there goes to help Dorian Murray and his family as he battles cancer.

In Narragansett Pier, the Seaside Village Fair will be in full swing on Saturday afternoon. Enjoy live dancing and music performances, as well as great food and the chance to see local artists and their work. There are also a lot of activities to entertain children of all ages.

Saturday is also the summer’s first opening of the Garden of Wings: Butterfly Pavilion in Wakefield. The pavilion will be open daily starting this weekend, and it’s a great way to experience a variety of flowers and local Rhode Island butterflies.

The RI Scottish Highland festival will be taking place all day at the Washington Country Fairgrounds. There will be games and competitions, music, dancers, food, and lots of fun for the whole family. You don’t need to be Scottish to enjoy it, so come on down.

Close out the weekend where you started: the University of Rhode Island is hosting the 5th Superkids Triathlon on Sunday. This event is the perfect event to get children involved in athletics without the high stress of competition. This is a great opportunity to support your children as they build confidence and do what they love most.
