Local Mercantile brings charming finds to Wickford

Posted

Local Mercantile is a Wickford boutique with a charming layout and calming aesthetic. With its less-is-more attitude, the shop carries fewer items than your standard jewelry store, but every piece is hand-crafted, high quality, and functional, perfect for your home or yourself. The bright, open space allows each brand to shine in its own display. Whether it’s made of leather, ceramic, wood, or metal, everything Local carries is proudly made in the United States.

Local showcases the handiwork of Alex and Ani as well as other lines, such as Jewelry Capital Manufacturing Co., which nods to Rhode Island’s jewelry history. The colorful suede and leather bags are hand-cut and stitched in Fall River by designer Frank Clegg. A beautiful selection of stoneware and accessories comes from Farmhouse Pottery in Woodstock, Vermont. And if you need a table to put it on, Lorimer Studios of RI has a variety of domestic woods and styles to choose from. Throws from Brahams Mount, produced on antique looms, complete a living room.

Elixir is the company’s own line of fragrances, soaps, candles, body creams, and more. Based on the four traditional elements – Air, Earth, Fire, Water – house chemist Joseph Allaire can create your own personal perfume. It’s a fun and engaging process, and patrons fully participate. Building on layers of fragrance and oils of your choice, Allaire mixes and bottles your signature scent right there in the store’s apothecary and beauty bar. It is a truly one-of-a-kind gift to yourself, or you can pick up a gift card and share this unique experience.
