Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby fall on the same day this year, so there has never been a better excuse to sip a cocktail in the middle of the day while wearing an overly large hat. Here are some highlights for Saturday, May 5.

Where: Ocean Mist, Matunuck

What: Join the Ocean Mistics for live rock and roll on the beach.

Where: The Coast Guard House, Narragansett

What: A Derby party: Dress only in your best hat, gentlemen’s attire, or silks because the best dressed spectators will be rewarded. Complimentary appetizers will be served.

Where: Harbourside Lobstermania, East Greenwich

What: Cinco de Mayo & Kentucky Derby Party, featuring live music by Contraband and Down to Earth, contests, games, prizes, drink specials ($1 jello shots, $5 margaritas), and more.

What: Cinco de Mayo Party, a bash featuring drink specials, $5 margaritas, and '90s music playing all night courtesy of DJ Tanner.

Where: Haversham Tavern, Westerly

What: A Kentucky Derby party to benefit Angels on Horseback Therapeutic Riding School. Tickets include a southern style buffet, whiskey tasting and complimentary mint julep. There will also be a hat contest, red carpet photos, a cigar tasting, a silent auction and more.

When: Saturday, May 5 from 4-8pm

Where: The Uncas Ballroom at the Mohegan Sun Casino, CT

What: Kentucky Derby party. Enjoy mint juleps and a special Derby Festival Buffet while taking advantage of 30 betting terminals and nine large screens broadcasting the race. Joanna Jones, race analyst and host for HRTV, and Linda Rice, the renowned trainer and first woman to hold a training title in New York, will be on hand to offer expert advice.

When: Saturday, May 5. Doors open at 10am.

How: There is first come, first served seating for up to 1000 people. A $25 wager gets you a special Mohegan Sun souvenir, $50 gets you access to the buffet.
