A Swirl of Possibility

FroYo Fix offers flavors and toppings and sauces, oh my

Posted

We said goodbye to summer this year with a family dinner at our little beach house near Scarborough, followed by a trip to FroYo Fix, a frozen yogurt shop in the Salt Pond Shopping Center in Narragansett. Such fun.

Unlike your typical ice cream parlor, FroYo Fix is more of an ultramodern lounge with bright lime green walls, all-white furniture and wild chandeliers – very striking. And it’s totally self-service. You grab a sturdy paper bowl and walk up to the wall of yogurt, where you help yourself to the flavor (or flavors) of your choice, as much as you want. The flavors rotate weekly, but at any given time you might have red velvet cake, peanut butter, cable car chocolate, coffee, sweet coconut, strawberry banana, cappuccino or mango tango, to name a few. The flavors are either low in fat or nonfat, and some have no sugar added. Sorbets are also offered. The nutritional facts for various flavors are on listed their Facebook page.

Then you head over to the topping area, where there are more than 70 possibilities from crushed candy bars to chocolate sprinkles, from there stands another 10 sauces to consider, from caramel to whipped cream. Once you’ve satisfied all your sweet cravings, you head over to the checkout area where your bowl of fancy frozen yogurt gets weighed, and you are charged 49 cents per ounce. Our party of six had a feast for less than $30.

We were an adventuresome group, especially the three teenagers. Elizabeth chose the New York cheesecake frozen yogurt, topped with white chocolate chips and a crumbled Nestle’s Crunch Bar. John opted for a mix of cookies and cream with cake batter frozen yogurt, dusted with crushed graham crackers and another Nestle’s Crunch Bar. Michael also combined cookies and cream with cake batter frozen yogurt, topped with gummy worms, a crushed Snickers bar and cheesecake bites.

The adults in our party were more health conscious. Jack went for a combination bowl of pomegranate-raspberry and cheesecake frozen yogurts, topped with fresh blueberries and Raisinettes. Brian kept it simple – Alpine vanilla frozen yogurt topped with lots of fresh blueberries. I absolutely loved my bowl of cheesecake frozen yogurt surrounded with all kinds of fresh fruit, from strawberries to pineapple, and a sprinkling of crushed graham crackers for an almost-real New York cheesecake experience.

According to their Facebook page, some fans are stopping in almost daily for their FroYo fix. This self-serve frozen yogurt lounge plans to be open at 11am every day of the week, year round. The store will close at 10pm Sunday through Wednesday, and at 11pm Thursday through Saturday.
