Wakefield Diner Dishes Out Bowls of Goodness

Zero-pretension health food is the focus at Auntie’s Kitchen

Health food bowls, whether they feature protein or greens, might be all the rage lately with a widespread focus on wellness, but Auntie’s Kitchen has long been tossing up Kale Super Salads, Detox Bowls, and quinoa dishes from their cozy, homespun nook in Wakefield. Specializing in whole, or unprocessed, ingredients to concoct a variety of veggie-forward, healthy combos, dishes start with grains or greens as a base and incorporate seasonal flavors for raw bowls or baked frittatas. Owner Kathy Curley explains their Buddha Bowl, the most popular offering, as “a very satisfying mix of rice, beans, kale, sunflower seeds, marinated beets, and carrots with a house dressing.”

Auntie’s Kitchen reopened to the public in May with renewed vigor to ensure their patrons had access to hearty, substantial take-away options, rolling out menu items like Sweet Potato Lasagna, Vegan Fried Rice, risotto, and tomato sauces, along with a vegan burger that quickly garnered followers over the summer. With a plant-based slant, many of these options are vegan or have vegan variations, and new offerings are written up daily on a specials board, which is posted on their Instagram, too. “We work hard producing from-scratch food that is clean, healthy and fun,” says Curley, “and we strive to be the local hangout. I love feeling that I am a part of the Wakefield and South Kingstown community.”
