Keep calm and craft on with these easy, fun, and local at-home art projects

Between walks, why not take a moment to stretch those creative muscles, too? Quarantine downtime is the perfect opportunity to get lost in the world of arts and crafts while supporting Rhody’s thriving local shop scene. Here are a handful of artists and retailers offering take-home versions of their art projects.

Wall Decor
Hammer @ Home Kits from Hammer & Stain in Wickford gives you all the tools to make your own decorative wooden sign, tray, or even beverage cooler from the comfort of quarantine. The kit includes paint and stain of your choice, hand-cut stencil, sanding paper, sponge, and instructions. Order yours online and owner AJ will have it assembled and ready for pickup within 48 hours!

Pottery
Weird Girl Creations in Barrington is offering all-ages Pottery Kits To Go. Select from over 300 blank ceramic projects and 50 glazes, pay online and pick up curbside, then drop it back off to be fired and ready within ten days.

Painting
Missing those paint and wine nights? Paint and Vino in Pawtucket is offering a complete virtual version with the help of art supply kits (including a table cloth to prevent messes!) and step-by-step instruction via Zoom. Psst..there’s even a Baby Yoda paint night coming up on April 27!

Embroidery
The Stitchery in Portsmouth is staying busy putting together take-home embroidery kits with linen, needle, floss, needle threader, wooden hoop, and instruction sheet. Pick yours up curbside and check out their tutorials on YouTube to stitch your own sunflower, cardinal, and more.

Paper Craft
Found and Flowered offers journaling kits and inspiration with a mix of vintage pages and ephemera, modern papers, and off-the-beaten-path paper materials. Don’t forget to check out their Instagram feed for a dose of pretty in pastels!

Mosaic
Local artist Joanna Read started The Global Art Mosaic with the goal of connecting people around the world through at-home art. Participants receive a hexagonal canvas in the mail to decorate however they wish under the theme of Transformation before sending it back, where it will be added to a larger piece of art to be donated to a community center.

Fused Glass
Create a keepsake sun catcher using glass with a take-home kit from Heritage Gallery and Glass. Each kit includes everything you need to assemble your piece from home; once finished, return your work to the gallery to be fired in the kiln.

Stamps & Cards
Bella ART has everything you need to take up a unique craft: card making. Sign up for their card or stamp clubs, purchase all the necessary supplies on the list from their store, and get creative with workshops in fun themed card design and stamping techniques – offered online! Check out their online learning page and Facebook for updates.

If we missed your favorite, we encourage businesses to email Elyse@ProvidenceOnline with the business name, URL, and 1-2 lines of what is being offered.
