What it is:

This nationally awarded art school offers a creative home and community for students of all ages and skills who seek outlets for their artistic expression.

Where to find it:

Located just off of Main Street in East Greenwich, it’s tucked behind A Gracious Soul, and just around the corner from Main Street Coffee if you need a jolt of java. (Or if you are hungry for something more substantial after art-ing up a storm, Rasa is nearby.)

What makes it a Rhody Gem?

It’s clear that student work is the star at the Nancy Stephen Gallery School of Art. Their paintings – propped up on gallery ledges – cover the walls from floor to ceiling. A cornucopia of art supplies tucked into various nooks and shelves are at the ready for when inspiration strikes. In addition to offering classes in drawing, painting, and sculpture, the school teaches 3D art, textiles, multimedia, and illustration. They also host a teen portfolio class to help students craft the perfect portfolio for college applications. “Since 1997, our school has continually challenged ourselves as teachers in providing the best art education for your creative desires,” says gallery owner Nancy Scelsa. “With all of our students constantly learning and experimenting within their interests, we are rewarded for creating a community that celebrates fine art in all its life forms.”
