Patio Shucking at The Breachway Grill

Balmy temps bring local ocean bounties to this Charlestown destination for oysters and clams

Posted

Summer at The Breachway Grill can only mean one thing: endless clams and oysters, all from local waters. This Charlestown restaurant is a favorite for post-beach drinks and apps or for a nice dinner out with the whole family, and snagging a coveted spot at their seven-seat raw bar right outside on the patio is the perfect way to enjoy the bounties of our local waters.

“Our oyster selection is from Ninigret Pond located just down the road from us,” says owner Craig Marr. “Some selections are also from Quonnie Pond, which is just two miles down the road. You can’t find fresher fare. Each day we also bring in an ‘oyster selection of the day’ from local area waters to complement the Ninigret and Quonnie offerings.”

For the raw seafood connoisseur, the Breachway Sampler is a must, featuring a platter of 12 oysters, 12 littlenecks, and six cocktail shrimp, with the option for guests to select their oysters. Along with the raw bar, their fresh catch of the day boasts the likes of swordfish, tuna, halibut, and more, straight off the boat from Point Judith. While The Breachway Grill is paradise for seafood lovers, a menu with plenty of variety ensures there’s something for everyone in your party. Keeping the summer vibe lively, music acts take the stage Fridays and Saturdays, and select Sundays include jazz brunch on the patio.

The patio raw bar is open through Labor Day, so reap our waters’ seasonal rewards while summer’s still in full swing.
