Boys & Girls Clubs Builds Great Futures in Northern RI

End-of-year fundraising goals uplift BGC’s transformative work in local communities

With a mission of "empowering youth to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens,” the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island (BGCNRI) only continues to grow its vital programming to help children succeed, including the addition of a state-of-the-art facility in Woonsocket with an indoor basketball court and learning kitchen to expand their diverse range of offerings. On October 24, BGCNRI hosts their annual Making a Difference event to not only uplift the individuals who bring their mission to life but also raise funds to support their exciting developments.

Serving thousands of youth in all of northern Rhode Island, work embodies a comprehensive approach, from helping children achieve academically to learning about healthy lifestyles and character building. After-school care, athletic and arts programming, and school work support are all among BGCNRI’s modes of holistic development, tailored to meet the needs of each individual.

“Our members and their families greatly value the safe, supportive environment we provide for the youth in our community” says president and CEO Gary Rebelo. “Parents know their kids are engaging in enriching activities under the guidance of caring mentors.” Committed to inclusivity, BGCNRI serves families from all different backgrounds, with 65 percent of members qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Recently one of BGCNRI’s Woonsocket members was named the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America Northeast Youth of the Year.

On the horizon, BGCNRI looks forward to opening its newly constructed preschool facility at their Cumberland-Lincoln Clubhouse, which will help support even more children in the area. The transformative experiences and positive outcomes BGCNRI fosters in northern Rhode Island wouldn’t be possible without help from the community, and end-of-year fundraising goals call on neighbors to contribute. “This effort is essential to support and expand our programs, ensuring that we can continue to provide impactful services to the youth in our area,” Rebelo says. “We encourage the community to support our mission, whether through sponsorship, donating, volunteering, or participating in our events.”
