Part III– The Eastern Front – Barbarossa to Berlin, 1941-45 – Wednesday, 6 February 2019

This lecture covers the war on the Eastern Front against the Soviet Union. With France defeated and Britain subdued, Germany turned east and invaded the Soviet Union in June, 1941 in OPERATION BARBAROSSA. Despite initial successes, overwhelming Soviet manpower and industrial capacity pushed back the German army (Wehrmacht) and captured Berlin in Spring, 1945, effectively ending the war in Europe.

This lecture covers the Normandy invasion of France by Allied forces in June, 1944 through the Battle of the Bulge in December, 1944 to the end of the war on the Western Front by May, 1945 ending in Germany’s defeat. The Normandy or D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge are the major topics in this final look at World War II in Europe and the Atlantic.
