Wingate book club: Meet the author Mai Donohue

Posted by mulhollc

The book club at Wingate Residences on the East Side will welcome Mai Donohue, author of “Crossing the Bamboo Bride: Memoirs of a Bad Luck Girl,” on Monday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. Donohue grew up in war-torn Vietnam, caring for her nieces and nephews because she was too small and frail to work in the fields. Her memoir, “Crossing the Bamboo Bridge,” tells her inspirational story of poverty, rebellion and war.

The Wingate book club launched nine years ago and remains one of the community’s most popular programs. Since its inception, the club has read more than 100 books. The book club typically meets the fourth Monday of each month, excluding holidays, and is free and open to the public. Space is limited, and an RSVP is required. For more information or to RSVP, call 401-275-0682. Wingate Residences on the East Side is located at 1 Butler Ave.
