Weekend Must-Do's in RI

From bumper cars on ice to Providence Restaurant Week, here are 10 top picks for your holiday weekend

Posted

All Month Long: Heat up the chilly season with winter fun at the Alex and Ani Center. Bumper cars and ice skating are officially back, so don your warmest gear and hit the ice, whether you’re a newbie lacing up skates for the first try or an old pro.

Running now-January 26: Get your appetite ready for deliciously discounted three-course meals from Providence's hottest culinary destinations during Providence Restaurant Weeks.

Running now-February 10: The Night Watch, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Sarah Waters, makes its US premiere at the Gamm Theatre. Set in 1940's London, the play details the stories and secrets of three women and a young man, unfolding backwards to the Blitz.

Running now-February 13: Yawgoo Valley teaches kids and adults skiing and snowboarding with their January Ski & Ride Lesson Program, a six-week program that meets once per week. By week six, you’ll feel like a pro on the slopes.

January 18-19: You know him best from NBC’s award-winning show 30 Rock, but this weekend, respected comedian Tracy Morgan makes a special appearance at the Comedy Connection. The hilarious star might have stand-up tours streaming on Netflix, like Picking Up the Pieces and Staying Alive, but nothing quite compares to experiencing the hilarity in person.

January 19:
We have “High Hopes” for Panic! At The Disco’s Pray for the Wicked Tour, stopping for one night at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center to rock the city. Supported by American singer Two Feet and opener to be announced.

January 19: Get your freak on at FreakFest 10, the night when punk, metal, rock, hip hop, and the best kind of freaks put on the performance of the year. Two stages featuring bands like Anti Flag, Scissorfight, and Thy Will Be Done.

January 19:
Long walks on the beach aren’t just for summer sunsets. Join the Audubon Society of Rhode Island for a midday Winter Beach Walk on Moonstone Beach. Without the on-season beach crowd, take the chance to comb for seashells during low tide and watch for birds. Don’t forget your binoculars!

January 20: A total lunar eclipse is happening this month, so you better get to Frosty Drew Observatory to see it during their "Under the Crimson Moon" event. The observatory will offer the best views, plus a livestream of the eclipse in their Sky Theatre.

January 21: To celebrate National Hug Day, join the first annual virtual Happy Hug Day 5K and 10K. A virtual race means anyone can participate, from anywhere, at any time – just pick a course and time yourself. Fifteen percent of every registration is donated to the Glaucoma Research Foundation, plus you’ll receive a decorative pin and bib commemorating the run.
