The Weekend Rundown: October 6-9

Posted

All Weekend: The Cowboy Rendezvous at West Greenwich’s Stepping Stone Ranch, is four days of good old-fashioned boot-stomping, cattle-wrangling fun. There will be performances of horsemanship, line dancing, saloon shows, cowboy dinners and more. There’s even a posse ride, where you hunt down bad guys on horseback. Everything is free to spectators except the dinner – so it looks like it’s time to saddle up.

All Weekend: The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular lights up Roger Williams Park Zoo with thousands of glowing gourds, this year with a time travel theme including dinosaurs, the Ice Age and Ancient Greece and Egypt.

October 7: Get ready to bake some serious pies with the entries for the Pumpkin Weigh-Off at Frerichs Farm in Warren. Competitors from all over Southern New England bring pumpkins weighing in the thousands of pounds to see who’s got the greatest gourd.

October 7: The Wakefield Village Association rings in the season with their annual Oktoberfest in downtown Wakefield. From noon to 11pm, there will be live music, a beer garden, German food, local artisans, pumpkin carving, dancers, mascots, magicians and hula hoopers, as well as a lighting of RiverFire.

October 8: Get in the Halloween spirit at the Great Pumpkin Harvest Party at the Peck Center in Barrington. The fun-filled day includes food trucks, games, pumpkin painting, a bounce house and more.

October 9: The biggest, loudest parade of the year is coming: Providence Honk Fest, better known as PRONK, returns for another dancing-in-the-streets festival. The party starts at 2pm on South Water Street with a parade down to the hurricane barrier by the Hot Club; then marching and brass bands from all over the country perform in the streets all around that piece of waterfront. There will also be art-making stations, workshops and fun activities led by community, activist and youth-led organizations.
