The Weekend Rundown: October 13-15

Posted

October 13–15: PPAC and The Vets are bringing in a killer lineup of concerts for one very musical weekend. Friday night is The Temptations and The Four Tops; Saturday is an all ‘80s Freestyle Rush Concert featuring Lisa Lisa, Stevie B and tons of others; and Sunday is modern jazz pioneer Chick Corea.

October 14: Thrills are a mile a minute at the Spooktacular Pumpkin Smash Thrill Show at Seekonk Speedway. In addition to drag races and costume contests, there will be pumpkin smash figure-eights, which can only lead to one thing: awesomeness.

October 14-15: Take a stroll through the studios of artists and artisans from rural Hopkinton and adjacent communities during the 10th Annual HOPArts Studio Trail. Rain or shine, visitors will wander from studio to studio amidst the autumn foliage in this beautiful and memorable cultural experience.

October 14: Street art takes on a different meaning at the Street Painting Festival at Alex and Ani City Center. Artists of all ages start working on their piece of asphalt “canvas” in the morning and, by the end of the day, have completed pieces of art. Whether you can jump through any of them Mary Poppins–style is TBD.

October 14: Join The Lady Project for the Lady Project Gala, a celebration of women in Rhode Island. The black tie event will feature signature cocktails, a silent auction and dancing at historic Aldrich House on Providence’s East Side.

October 14: Everyone’s all about pumpkin everything, but let’s not forget about that other New England harvest staple: the apple. Head to Casey Farm in Saunderstown for their annual Apples, Eats and Tasty Treats festival, which will feature local foodies working their magic with apples.

October 14: Dozens of regional vendors assemble under colorful tents to offer delectable preparations of lobster, crab, fish, oysters, clams, quahogs, shrimp, squid, scallops and other fresh, local-caught seafood at Bowen’s Wharf’s 27th Annual Seafood Festival. Cafe-style seating is available around the wharf, or you can choose to drop anchor at one of the area’s many famed restaurants, all of which will be serving their most celebrated seafood dishes.

October 14: Visit Matunuck’s Ocean Mist beach bar to experience the revelry of Germany’s Oktoberfest celebration… with a bit of a coastal twist. For one night, the breezy beach bar will be transformed into Oktobermist, a Bavarian paradise where you’ll find authentic German foods like bratwurst and pub pretzels along with an assortment of bottled and draught German beers to wash it down.
