South County Like a Tourist: Be a Kid Again

From playgrounds to parks to pirate adventures, you won’t fall short on family-friendly fun this summer

Play at Ninigret Park
This expansive green space features a playground, eight tennis courts (a few are under construction but that won’t stop the fun), a bicycle course, a swimming pond and more. Round up the crew and try your hand at disc golf – there’s an 18-hole course on site. Fido will have a blast too, running free and making furry friends at the Ninigret Dog Park. 4540 Park Lane, Charlestown. 364-1222, www.CharlestownRI.org

Ride the South County Trolley
Ever since the days of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood you’ve had a weird affinity for trolleys. It’s okay – we totally get it. Indulge your inner child and take a South County Trolley tour, departing from The Towers every Wednesday in August. The charming white vehicle will whisk you past some of Narragansett’s most notable spots while providing insightful commentary. It doesn’t get any more touristic than this. 35 Ocean Road, Narragansett. 932-7288, www.SouthCountyTrolley.com

Explore a World of Adventure
Tucked away in the back roads of Narragansett, Adventureland Family Fun Park is really for kids of all ages. Take a swing on their mini golf greens, race each other on the go karts, go around and around on the carousel, play in the game room or bonk into each other on the bumper boats. Whatever games you decide to play, it’s really everyone that wins. 112 Point Judith Raod, Narragansett. 789-0030, www.AdventurelandRI.com

Fly a Horse in Watch Hill
The magical 1883 Flying Horse Carousel at Watch Hill Beach is listed on the National Historic Register and draws droves of visitors every year. Kids will enjoy choosing a uniquely painted horse and “flying” it around beside the ocean. Stop by on an evening when the beach is hosting a movie night and enjoy a ride followed by a flick. 151 Bay Street, Westerly. 348-6007, www.WatchHillBeachandCarousel.com

Watch a Musical at Theatre By the Sea
Get swept away to the land of Oz or cheer on a disco diva as she hides out in a convent – from The Wizard of Oz to Sister Act, Theatre by the Sea’s 2016 lineup of popular musicals are a definite summer do. Housed in a historic barn not far from East Matunuck State Beach, catching a show is a great way to cap off a day at the shore. 364 Cards Pond Road, Wakefield. 782-8587, www.TheatreByTheSea.com
