Slay the Weekend in RI

Posted

•February 16–25: Treat your inner child – or your actual kids – to a movie at the Providence Children’s Film Festival with showings all over the city and the state, plus workshops and events.

•February 21–24: Catch a fashion show at StyleWeek Northeast when they return to the runway at the RI Convention Center. It’s four days, sixteen shows and one very good reason to spruce up your wardrobe.

•February 22: Hear American Rhapsody: The Gershwin Songbook, presented by FirstWorks at The Vets, performed by vocalist Michael Andrew and a 17-piece big band orchestra.

•February 22: “Feel It Still” when Portugal the Man plays at The Strand Ballroom and Theatre, supported by their aforementioned single of the season and opening band Twin Peaks.

•February 22–March 4: Go Measure for Measure when URI Theatre performs Shakespeare’s great work, a darkly comic play that takes aim at corruption and pay-to-play politics.

•February 23: Stay awake for the Slambovian Circus of Dreams at the Greenwich Odeum, playing their signature brand of surreal avant-folk that's been described as “a riveting, mesmerizing, crazy, amazing machine of music” by Sirius XM.

•February 23: Have a laugh during Newport Winterfest's annual All-Star comedy show at Gurney's Resort and Marina, featuring top N.Y.C. headliner Marion Grodin and Boston comedy legend Steve Sweeney.

•February 24: Bring your appetite to the Mac & Cheese Smackdown at Gurney's, and sample hot and cheesy goodness from restaurants across Newport County.

•February 24: Dance the night away at The Ocean House's Black and White Ball, celebrating the Ocean Community YMCA’s 90th birthday. Enjoy delectable cuisine and live music while dressed in your finest black and/or white cocktail attire.
