A spellbinding mystery of identity, illusion, and deception unfolds against the turmoil of post-World War II Germany in the stunning new film from acclaimed director Christian Petzold, Phoenix. Nelly (Nina Hoss), a German-Jewish nightclub singer, has survived a concentration camp, but with her face disfigured by a bullet wound so her former husband doesn’t recognize her. A well-crafted, Hitchcock-like mystery unfolds as Nelly enters a dangerous game of duplicity and disguise. Playing Friday and Saturday nights and Saturday and Sunday matinee.

Cable Car Cinema
Opening Friday is Best of Enemies, a documentary about the legendary series of nationally televised debates in 1968 between liberal Gore Vidal and conservative William Buckley Jr. These encounters came to define the modern era of public discourse in the media, and the entangled biographies of these two great thinkers, the language and theater of these debates and a reflection on what they mean today raises the question of what television has done to the way we discuss politics in our democracy today.

Jane Pickens Theater
You can catch Woody Allen’s Irrational Man at the Jane Pickens Theater in Newport until August 27 for an extra special movie-going experience – one of the scenes in the movie was filmed right outside the theater!

On Sunday at 12:30pm, you can gain exclusive access to the world behind the story of the Faberge name with a screening of the feature-doc, Faberge: A Life of Its Own. The film follows the multi-faceted world that began with one incredibly talented man, Peter Carl Faberge, Court Jeweler of St. Petersburg, with interview contributions from the world’s foremost Faberge authorities and personal reminisces from Faberge family members.
