Owner Stacey Lashua credits her father for the many years he took her on their cherished flea marketing ex- cursions for her passion of antiques and eclectic consignment finds. Not only does her base of steady-growing customers appreciate her knack for finding cool, enticing items to outfit her distinctive shop with, but they’re also just as intrigued with the store’s name. “The Flying Pig holds a special message for me – anything’s possible,” she states enthusiastically. She opened the store six years ago during the recent tough economy and despite hard times, both personally and professionally, the store has since won awards, grown in popularity and is even frequented by Hollywood movie producers who have used several of her pieces on the big screen.

Most folks are pleasantly surprised at how spacious The Flying Pig’s layout is because the building’s size is deceiving as portrayed from the compact weather-shingled exterior bursting with cheerful pink accents. At night the store is aglow with pink twinkling lights that brilliantly frame the hidden treasures nestled inside.

Artful thought has been creativelyexecuted throughout every nook and cranny of The Flying Pig where a mixture of old and new beckons serious collectors as well as the practical or zany shopper. Upon entering you immediately sense an adventure awaiting and are drawn into the sweet smelling and thoughtfully laid out rooms that house interesting pieces. There’s an Oriental Rosewood table with eight chairs, cozy wool shag rugs in hues to match any room’s fancy, art deco lighting fixtures, vintage furs and a breathtaking early 1800s hand-hammered Scandinavian wedding trunk. From folksy baskets, complete sets of hand-painted china to statement pieces such as a floral-motif screen/room divider, industrial etched glass coffee tables, chunky buffets and romantic china closets, there is something for everyone. Delicately painted tea tables and parsons chairs covered with personality are the perfect addition to any room. The Flying Pig is home to over 500 consignors. In addition, Stacey is pleased to be able to showcase local artists’ paintings such as a one-of-a-kind collection from the late Chris Benvie’s estate as well as local artisans that design and create an easy-breezy collection of costume jewelry.

During the past few years, The Flying Pig has evolved from an antique business to a store that also focuses on quality, affordable, functional-everyday pieces. “We cater to every budget and go out of our way to provide customers with an array of home and clothing accessories, furnishings, floor coverings, apparel items, art pieces and wall hangings, lamps, dishes and glassware that run the gamut from swanky, trendy and funky to timeless, traditional and classic,” Stacey reveals.

Not to be forgotten is the enchanting outdoor display of charming porch and garden furniture, which is hidden behind the store and simply beckons you to pull up a seat and enjoy a cup of your favorite herbal tea or ice cold lemonade.
