RHODY GEM

Rhody Gem: March 2019

Willywaw and Light Forge Studio

Posted

We are pleased to introduce Rhody Gem, a new monthly column in SO Rhode Island. We’re always being thanked for spotlighting the “hidden gems” of the state, and in our ongoing efforts to leave no stone unturned, we’re putting the call out to our readership! Each month we’ll spotlight a Rhody Gem: a business, artisan, or place led to us by our faithful readers.

What it is: Willywaw is the working studio and spacious showroom of artist Ashley Van Etten and her husband/photographer, Joe Beckham. Together the couple produce an array of screen-printed textiles and photographs.

Where to find it: Housed in a light industrial building near the URI Bay Campus behind Roch’s Fresh Foods, the studio is located at 31 Sextant Lane, Narragansett, with the entrance on Celestial Drive. Look for a glass door and the large signs marking “Willywaw and Light Forge Studio” on the left side of the building. The studio keeps a seasonal schedule so visit their website for hours.

What makes it a Rhody Gem? If you like one-of-a-kind items with Ocean State appeal, a visit to this local studio is a must. On-site screen-printing yields seaside-themed items like T-shirts, market totes, note cards, and more, along with Joe’s stunning photography of surf and nature.
