Rhody Gem: May 2019

The Pub at Matunuck – So Rhode Island

Posted

We are pleased to introduce Rhody Gem, a new monthly column in
SO Rhode Island. We’re always being thanked for spotlighting the “hidden gems” of the state, and in our ongoing efforts to leave no stone unturned, we’re putting the call out to our readership! Each month we’ll spotlight a Rhody Gem: a business, artisan, or place lead to us by our faithful readers.

What it is:

The Pub is a bar with an open air rooftop lounge that overlooks the water. Previously Tara’s Tipperary Tavern, the establishment has been a staple food and drink spot for nearly a century, says manager Karen Recene. “The Pub is an Irish Bar, and is said to be one of the oldest in Rhode Island – it dates back to a speakeasy in the 1920s.”

Where to find it:

Just off Matunuck Beach, you can find this small pub by the water. The building blends in, sporting grey shingle siding like most beachside buildings, but you can’t miss its big logo on the side.

What makes it a Rhody Gem?

Perfectly positioned across the water from Block Island, you can see the landmass if the weather is clear. Does it get any more Rhode Island than having good food and drink by the sea?.
