Peace Fest RI 2017

Posted by LaLaTour

Each year on September 21 the nations of the world come together to celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace. Since 2004, the Peace Flag Project — a Rhode Island-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting peace — has taken that global initiative and made it local by hosting the annual “Peace Fest Rhode Island” celebration.

Peace Fest RI 2017 will be observed on Saturday, September 23rd at Burnside Park in Downtown Providence. From 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., the public can create peace-themed flags and t-shirts, as well as construct Native American talking sticks and peace cranes. Children will be entertained by storyteller Len Cabral and musician Vinnie Lovegrove. A featured performance by Eastern Medicine Singers will highlight the multicultural theme. The day’s festivities will end with a “Peace Walk” — a walk done slowly and in silence — led by clergy of many faiths. The event is free and open to the public.
