Take a bite out of these internationally influenced starters

The craving for Asian food pops up for even the pickiest of eaters from time to time. In the spirit of satisfying cravings, we tried some expected and unexpected appetizers to whet our appetites. But take warning, you can’t actually eat these photos. You’ll just have to venture out and try them for yourselves.

Kon Asian Bistro
“That’s delish,” was the response of one of our staff members to the Blackened Tuna
with wasabi mayo sauce
. The tuna was incredibly fresh and the sear was just right. Totop it off, there was a nice kick of spice that lingered, but was definitely not too spicy.
553 Main Street, East Greenwich. 886-9200.

Thong Thai
The visually appealing Ka Nom Jeeb is really more than meets the eye. The steamed dumpling is chock full of ground pork, shrimp, black mushrooms and water chestnuts served with a sweet, savory and slightly salty dumpling sauce. The sesame seeds were just like the cherry on top.
15 Railroad Avenue, Westerly. 348-0511.

Sa-Tang
The Fried-Ginger Calamari was a refreshing twist on RI-style calamari. The generous pieces were gently breaded and fried with a tempura batter. This blank canvas let you take advantage of the two sauce choices that were sweet or a little spicy.
402 Main Street, South Kingstown. 284-4220.

Dragon Palace
Sometimes you just want a classic. The Beef Teriyaki did just that. The sizeable piece of beef was perfectly cooked so that it was tender and juicy. This finger food friendly dish completely satisfied our craving.
733 Kingstown Road, Wakefield. 789-2308.
