New Art Pop-up Takes to the Field

Field of Artisans is South Kingstown’s newest pop-up art fair

Posted

Field of Artisans, a weekly popup market situated in southern Rhode Island, celebrates the work of 20 carefully selected vendors every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm this summer. Quite literally a breath of fresh air, we have South Kingstown native Katrina Meehan to thank for this innovative association that’s chock-full of exposure opportunity.

A Fashion Merchandising graduate from the University of Rhode Island, Katrina sought a local market similar to those in New York City to sell her own handmade jewelry, paintings and repurposed leather. An identifiable lack of consistent, art-focused merchandising opportunities in Rhode Island inspired the collaborative concept behind Field of Artisans and, with the help of her two sisters Shannon and Natasha, its exciting fruition.

As a platform for ideas where artists and small businesses can sell, network and gain exposure, Field of Artisans creates an environment for painters, chefs, metal smiths and makers of every kind to showcase their work, and encourages patrons to support local talent. Various South Kingstown locations, including Marina Park, Saugatucket Park and Matunuck Town Beach, will host the outdoor, artist-to-artist setting that Katrina believes fosters creative reflection, new perspectives and revolutionary insights.

An individual space at Field of Artisans – approximately 10’x10’ – costs $40 per day and welcomes mediums of every kind. In addition, specialized events and possible indoor opportunities promise this handcrafted hub will continue regardless of weather conditions.
