Dining and Dancing

A great reason to get a little closer

Posted

Think of it: the two of you, sipping cocktails, gazing into each other’s eyes, listening to romantic music. Sounds like a dream, right? The Twisted Vine (3 Canal Street, Westerly. 596-4600). Westerly’s new martini and piano bar, may be just that. A roaring fire surrounded by plush leather chairs is the perfect setting for your first date or your hundredth, but don’t rule out holding hands over an intimate table, either. Small plates of both comfort foods and gourmet nibbles are perfect for sharing – think Goat Cheese and Fig Grilled Cheese and charcuterie. The wine list is extensive and carefully chosen, but you’ll probably want to go with one of their creative martinis. A nice bonus: the lively bar scene there makes for some nice opportunities to meet future dates, too.

With its plush banquettes, ambient lighting and gourmet food, 1149 in East Greenwich is an ideal destination for a romantic dinner any night. Share a bottle of Malbec and enjoy some oysters, followed the 28-day aged Flat Iron Steak and the Pan-Roasted Atlantic Salmon with Creole Sauce together. Then after, head to the lounge for specialty cocktails and live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Dancing isn’t required, but it will definitely get you bonus points with that special someone.

Romance is nice and all, but sometimes you’re looking for something a little bit more fun in a date destination – especially on those sometimes bumpy first dates, when you’re still getting to know each other. Try Westerly’s Malted Barley. This cozy pub always has a good crowd and something interesting happening. Besides the interesting and well-curated beer selection, the Malted Barley also has weekly events like Cask Wednesdays, when a new craft ale cask is featured, and live music every Friday and Saturday night. The menu leans towards gourmet pub fare, like Mozzarella and Tomato Stuffed Pretzels with Pesto, perfect for sharing.
