From Oakland Beach to Watch Hill, get your fill of tunes and dunes when the sun goes down

This summer on beaches across southern Rhode Island, when the night falls the fun is just getting started. We know you expected fireworks, but film screenings, classic cars, food trucks and clambakes, orchestras and oceanside DJs? What is blazing hot during the day is cool to cruise at night. Paradise indeed.

Tunes at the Beach
You’ve never had so many options to get your dancing feet sandy as you do this July. Westerly’s Tunes on the Dunes will feature live music on Monday and Wednesday nights. You may need to uncover your jean jacket: the line-up includes tributes to Tom Petty, the Beatles, and Bob Dylan. Free. Mondays and Wednesdays. 6-8pm. Drink some suds while you dance amongst the suds at Paddy’s Beach Club’s DJ Foam Fridays, featuring local spinners. Brewski isn’t your thing? Shoo-bop and diddily-dop to old doo-wop tunes with Reminisce at The Towers. Specializing in songs from the ‘50s and early ‘60s, the group has taken their oobie-doos from Radio City Music Hall to our scenic Narragansett shores. Return later in the month for Roger Ceresi’s All Starz and again for some southern lovin’ with the Savoy Family Band, playing classic Cajun music. $15. You’ve got to love it when Misquamicut’s cruising together. Classic Car Cruise Nights continue in July on Thursdays with DJ Mike English from 102.3 The Wolf and an array of classic cars from all over Rhode Island. Celebrate four decades of orchestral bliss on the deck of the North Beach Clubhouse. The 40th Annual Performance of the RI Philharmonic will be preceded by a ticketed cocktail and dinner reception. $50. July 8. The North Beach Clubhouse will pulsate with sound on Monday nights this summer during the 4th Annual Music on the Beach concert series. Shawn P. The beaches of Block Island will resound for another year of Blues on the Block. Family Night Concerts at Easton Beach this July are bound to be harmonic for young and old alike. The Tuesday and Thursday evening shows are for all ages, with Thursday night shows geared toward a much younger crowd. Free. The North Kingstown Town Beach Summer Concert Series continues this year with a full schedule suited for the whole family. Moms and Pops may prefer Tuesday night shows while youngsters will dance to the beat of their own pint-sized drums on Thursdays. Free. Tuesdays and Thursdays. In Jamestown, on the eastern-most end of Narragansett Avenue, music abounds. Although they call themselves “Just a Beach Bar,” there’s a lot more to the Ocean Mist, especially on Ticket Tuesday nights. Eats at the Beach
If your belly starts a-talkin’ and its a Monday in July, fear not. Narragansett’s Food Trucks at the Beach is sure to satisfy everybody’s cravings (even you, vegans!) Think wood-fired pizza, fresh oysters, barbecue, Brazilmerican and vegan soft serve. Free to enter. You’ve never seen such patriotic clams as the ones that will overlook Quonochontaug Pond at the Weekapaug Inn’s Independence Day Clambake. The Fourth at the Beach
Go all out this year with the Annual Independence Day Beach Ball on the Ocean House Beach. Enjoy a classic lobster boil, live music and dancing, and of course a fireworks display. Along with all that red, white and blue paraphernalia, don’t forget the sand-sculpting tools this year. Narragansett’s Independence Day Beach Party is all it’s cracked up to be. The festivities begin mid-day with sand castle building with Sandtasia, continue with Brass Force performing 5-7pm at the North Beach Clubhouse, and finish off with fireworks at dusk. Free. July 4. It just isn’t Independence Day without a parade. With this year’s theme of “Sports and Games,” the July 4th Parade and Steak Fry on Block Island is bound to be a cavalcade of floats, clowns, bands and families. Afterward, march to the Fire Barn on Beach Avenue for the annual steak fry benefitting the Block Island Fire Department. Just like everything else, movies are better at the beach.
