I don’t know about you, but I love my morning routine. I wake up to a quiet house, take a hot shower, brew a fresh cup of coffee and put caffeine all over my face.
The health benefits of caffeine – not to mention the health benefits to my coworkers when I have enough coffee in the morning, or more accurately, the health risks when I don’t have enough coffee – are numerous. Caffeine boosts memory, lowers risk of cancer, detoxes the organs, can help soothe asthma. But that’s only when you drink it. When used on the skin, the supercharged antioxidants in green coffee beans fight aging, reduce wrinkles and cellulite, provide deep hydration and create an overall glow.
Stephanie Additon, founder of JAVA Skin Care, had long been a fan of green coffee in skincare – but not of the prices of the exclusive skincare lines that utilized it, like La Mer, which sells for hundreds of dollars per ounce. She launched her own line of high quality, natural body products in 2013, including a body serum, coffee bean and sugar scrub, lip scrub, body wash and coffee-infused bar soap. I tried the body wash three years ago, and there has been a bottle in my shower since. I love the caffeinated wakeup first thing in the morning, especially on mornings when I need an extra boost. The body serum, an oil-based moisturizer, is a lifesaver against dry winter skin. The products are so well-received that they’ve gotten national press from Cosmopolitan and Health, and even ended up in the Grammys swag bags.
Fans of JAVA had been clamoring for a face collection, which is formally launching this spring. I was lucky enough to get my hands on samples of the Illuminating Eye Serum and the Face and Décolletage Serum, and I love them as much as I hoped I would. The oil-based moisturizers are lightweight enough to use on normal skin, with or without makeup. The glow I get from that caffeine boost is noticeable, and the two have become a regular part of my morning beauty routine. When the product is fully available, it’s going to be really popular.
Perfect timing, then, that Stephanie and crew have just opened their first storefront in Wickford Village. “I fell in love with Wickford when I first moved here as an engaged couple with my now husband Mark,” Stephanie says. “Wickford is such an amazing town filled with history and great people. When JAVA started growing faster then we expected, I knew this was where I wanted to be.” The space also houses art by Silver Hippopotamus, and will host the launch of a men’s JAVA line later this year. “I feel so lucky every day that I get to go to work with my amazing team in our amazing showroom,” Stephanie says. “I’m thrilled with how people have embraced JAVA and our message.”
